OXNARD, Calif., April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- It was not a race, but a dramatic demonstration of clean, efficient transportation in motion when electric vehicle (EV) owners rallied from Oxnard to Simi Valley today. The event was part of a joint unveiling by Costco Companies Inc. and Edison International, which have teamed up to create a network of EV charging stations at Costco warehouse outlets throughout California.
The rally started at Costco's Oxnard store, 2001 E. Ventura Blvd., where the first unveiling of a new EV charging station took place. Local EV owners were on site, "filling up" on electric power in preparation for the 25-mile journey to Costco's Simi Valley warehouse at 2660 Park Center Dr. They arrived at 11 a.m. for the second charger unveiling.
"We applaud Costco for its pioneering effort as the first major retailer to make electric vehicle charging available to customers," said Pam Bass, vice president at Southern California Edison (SCE) "EV consumers are asking for public charging and will patronize businesses that provide this service.
The Costco installations are the latest additions to the regional network of public EV charging stations currently under development in the West to support the growing use of electric vehicles. Earlier this month, Costco unveiled its first charging station at its Westlake Village warehouse outlet. Other companies such as Hawthorne Savings are also installing charging stations at their southern California locations.
Costco customers can "fill up" at no cost at all three of the retailer's Ventura County charging locations as part of the company's commitment to promote the air-quality benefits of clean, electric transportation.
